HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season. Have you started watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel? For me it’s the holiday baking championships. I love those!

For all of us, this holiday season will be different, to say the least. This is one of those times that making a list of what we’re grateful for might come in handy. A Gratitude List! Put it up somewhere. Look at it. Often. Add to it when you’re frustrated. My mother and grandmother would say it a bit differently: “Count your blessings.”

This Thanksgiving, you and all of my readers are certainly on my list of blessings. During some of the most difficult times in my life you have been there supporting me and my family without even knowing. It’s been because of you, that I’m able to write and share my twisted tales.

So thank you! I appreciate it more than words allow.

SOME TURKEY…PRETTY PLEASE?!

Thanksgiving’s feast is a mixture of aromas that’s hard to resist. It can turn the best behaved dogs into beggars. Did you know that most veterinarians have their busiest day the Monday after Thanksgiving? Here are some tips for safely sharing with your dogs.

Tips to Safely Share Thanksgiving

• A small piece or two of white turkey meat is okay. No skin. No gravy. No dressing. The herbs, onion and garlic can be toxic.
• Sweet potatoes and green beans are okay, but give them a bite BEFORE you mix in the other ingredients.
• Canned pumpkin helps a dog’s digestion, but only a dollop.
• Put anything you give them in their bowl, preferably at one sitting, and then they’re done. Don’t let your guests feed them bites.
• Keep to their regular feeding and exercise schedule for the day. Have plenty of fresh water available.
• Secure all trash, so your dog can’t get at bones, plastic utensils, paper plates or aluminum foil. Yes, that stuff does smell good enough to eat.

And of course, always check with your veterinarian.
